Michelman & Robinson Opens Chicago Office, Expands National Insurance PracticePDF
Los Angeles – June 7, 2016 – Michelman & Robinson, LLP (M&R), a Los Angeles-based law firm with five offices in California and New York, today announced the opening of a Chicago office. This follows closely on the heels of two recent announcements regarding significant lateral hires – a team of intellectual property attorneys recently joined the firm’s Orange County office from K&L Gates, and a group of commercial, corporate, employment and real estate attorneys moved from Vandenberg & Feliu to M&R’s New York office in late May.
Michael Kasdin, formerly of Dentons and DLA Piper, is Managing Partner of the new Chicago office. He provides regulatory advice to private equity funds, insurers, reinsurers, agents and other insurance industry professionals, helping to foster compliance, obtain transaction approval and develop new products in the insurance marketplace. His litigation experience includes counseling insurers in commercial disputes, as well as representing both insurers and reinsurers in complex coverage disputes. Kasdin is frequently the specialist counsel of choice to the most esteemed M&A firms in the country.
“We are thrilled to be spearheading M&R’s expansion into the Midwest,” said Kasdin, who joins the firm’s Insurance Regulatory Practice. “Michelman & Robinson is highly regarded within the insurance industry, so I am particularly delighted to help cement the firm as a preeminent player in the field.”
Previously at K&L Gates, Seth Darmstadter (Partner) will join Kasdin in co-founding M&R’s Chicago office. Darmstadter brings significant experience in the areas of complex commercial, employment and insurance coverage litigation. He specializes in the representation of high-growth, emerging technology companies, where he is the preferred legal advisor to entrepreneurs who develop innovative technologies and solutions across the health care, advertising, finance, energy, media, education, e-commerce and music industries.
Also joining the firm, and working out of New York, is Partner JillAllison Opell, who handles a variety of regulatory issues for insurance companies, agents, brokers and other clients throughout the insurance industry. Like Kasdin, Opell arrives from Dentons, and her industry expertise includes advising clients on Holding Company Act issues such as acquisitions, intercompany agreements and investment laws, as well as compliance, licensing and Affordable Care Act issues.
“We are quite proud to open a Chicago office and welcome this exceptionally talented team to M&R,” said Dana Kravetz, M&R Managing Partner. “Well known within Chicago’s dynamic commercial corridors, and throughout the nation’s insurance sector, our new colleagues are the perfect complement to M&R’s industry-focused practice.”
M&R will look to quickly scale up its Chicago presence, adding experienced attorneys with formidable achievements and focused expertise to its multi-disciplinary transactional, regulatory and litigation team.
