Dr. Aleksandra Fortier is a Patent Agent in M&R’s Dallas office, where she works in tandem with the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group assisting with patent litigation and protection, strategic counseling, registrations, opinions, and patent portfolio management.

More specifically, Aleksandra supports all phases of patent litigation, including discovery, motion practice, hearings, trials and appeals. She also conducts legal research and analysis on complex intellectual property issues; drafts pleadings, motions and other litigation-related documents; participates in client meetings and strategic planning sessions; and works closely with senior attorneys to develop and implement litigation strategies. In addition, Aleksandra is skilled in the preparation, filing and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications; management of the entire patent lifecycle; performance of clearance assessments to assist domestic and international clients with IP valuation in connection with mergers and acquisitions; oversight of freedom-to-operate studies and due diligence investigations; and so much more. She is particularly sought after to handle these items for companies whose businesses focus on a wide range of technologies, including oil and gas, medical devices, consumer products, energy storage, electromechanical assemblies, automotive design and manufacturing, aerospace technologies and portable electronics.

Prior to joining M&R, Aleksandra was a Scientific Advisor for several premier intellectual property law firms. Before that, she held academic positions such as Professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of North Texas, Faculty Fellow at the Wright Patterson Air Force Research Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio, and Invited Faculty Fellow at the University of Maryland CALCE Center for Advanced Engineering.

Aleksandra’s research work in the area of reliability and life-cycle performance of electronics has been published in over 40 peer-reviewed technical journals, conference proceedings and technical presentations, and she is the sole inventor of several issued US patents and patent applications. By virtue of her extensive technical background, Aleksandra is frequently invited to present on a variety of related issues.

As for her academic credentials, Aleksandra obtained a B.S. (2005), M.S. (2006) and Ph.D. (2009), all in mechanical engineering, and a second M.S. (2009) in engineering management. Each of these degrees was earned at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
