Michelman & Robinson, LLP (M&R) is pleased to announce the continued expansion of its Los Angeles office with the addition of Howard Camhi, the firm’s newest member and a bankruptcy pro with 30 years experience representing commercial clients and trustees in complex bankruptcy cases, corporate restructuring and reorganizations (both in and out of court), and distressed asset, acquisition and disposition and related litigation matters.

At M&R, he will continue to do the same, as the firm has launched its Bankruptcy and Restructuring Practice Group in response to extraordinary demand in the shadow of the economic chaos and business closures caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

Commenting on M&R’s newest partner and practice, Sanford Michelman, the firm’s chairman and co-founder, said, “With every challenge comes opportunity—in this case, the chance to welcome Howard into the M&R family and expand our client base to businesses struggling to navigate financial troubles in a post-coronavirus world. Howard is an elite bankruptcy lawyer who has handled the most complex reorganizations, as well as countless cases on behalf of debtors, creditors, creditors’ committees, and trustees in bankruptcy courts nationwide. With him in the fold, we are well-positioned to service companies facing financial trouble, particularly those hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

For his part, Camhi adds, “I’m thrilled to have joined M&R, though I’m mindful that I’ve done so in the midst of unprecedented times. Clearly, our current public health landscape has diminished the financial condition of so many businesses, which brings my skillset to center stage. That being said, M&R is the perfect home for me given its extraordinary team of tax, corporate, real estate, employment, and litigation lawyers that help me to provide outstanding representation for all types of entities facing major liabilities, slumping business, and cash-flow problems, as well as creditors looking to protect themselves in days like these.”

A huge honor has been bestowed in New York. John Giardino, Managing Partner of our NYC office, is one of the select few that has been chosen to serve on the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) COVID-19 Task Force. The assembled team—10 lawyers in all— consists of ABOTA National Board members representing a balance of plaintiff and defense attorneys nationwide. Together, they will address pandemic-related issues impacting the legal profession, the judicial system, and the public.

Like all other aspects of life in a world colored by coronavirus, courthouses have been widely affected by the outbreak of COVID-19. All around the country, courts and litigants alike have been stymied by closures, stays, and a deferral of trials. As part of ABOTA’s task force, John will work to help guide the administration of civil trials in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. Toward that end, he will offer his input as to how ABOTA can provide judges with the resources and options necessary to conduct hearings and non-jury trials, and the technology that will allow for jury trials, with jurors participating remotely.

This is a big deal and great recognition of John’s trial expertise. Founded in 1958, ABOTA is a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Membership in ABOTA is by invitation only and consists of only 7,600 lawyers and judges spread among 96 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Michelman & Robinson prides itself on it litigation prowess, and with John among those at the helm, it is easy to see why. We congratulate him and the rest of ABOTA’s COVID-19 Task Force.

Michelman & Robinson, LLP has announced that Mehmet Baysan and Bradley Henry have joined the firm as partners in its New York City office. With the hiring of Baysan and Henry, M&R adds international trade, arbitration, and white-collar criminal defense to its robust slate of client service offerings.

Both attorneys were previously name partners at an internationally recognized boutique disputes and investigations law firm with offices and affiliates in New York City, Boston and overseas in Turkey.

Baysan represents international clients—institutions, businesses, and sovereigns—involved in commercial and investment treaty arbitrations, as well as other complex civil, criminal, and administrative enforcement actions. Likewise, he is known for assisting foreign companies across industries—construction, infrastructure, energy, and textiles, to name a few—looking to enter the U.S. market.

Henry is a board-certified criminal trial specialist. In that capacity, he handles criminal and regulatory litigation, international arbitrations, and internal investigations involving securities fraud, foreign corrupt practices and export violations, bank secrecy and money laundering offenses, public corruption, sanctions violations, corporate financial fraud, and theft of trade secrets. Henry clients include companies from multiple sectors—banking and financial services, textile, construction, mining, nuclear, tobacco, and manufacturing, among them.

On the arrival of Baysan and Henry at M&R, John Giardino, Managing Partner of the firm’s office in NYC, says, “Mehmet and Brad’s roster of international clients and track record of success in cases that bridge continents are just remarkable. By virtue of their vast experience in somewhat niche and highly sought-after areas of the law, and given their collective footprint overseas—especially in Turkey—our litigation presence is elevated and our global capacity grows exponentially.”

Baysan and Henry believe the sky’s the limit at M&R, even in this challenging environment. According to Baysan, “Michelman & Robinson is known to be a powerhouse litigation firm, which is why Brad and I have had our eyes on them for some time. Its nationwide reach is a big draw for the two of us, and we’re looking forward to rolling up our sleeves, working alongside a great group of lawyers, and opening up doors internationally.”

Adds Henry, “The firm’s client-centric approach and industry focus were a great match with our core practice philosophy. M&R has assembled an A-team, and Mehmet and I are proud to be a part of it.”
