Transgender Discrimination Lawsuit Wave AnticipatedPDF
Spencer Hamer was quoted in the article “Transgender discrimination lawsuit wave anticipated,” published in the Daily Journal on May 20, 2016. The article contends that, given the recent push to extend anti-sex discrimination laws to cover transgender people, employers may soon be faced with a dramatic increase in lawsuits being brought by members of the transgender community. Mr. Hamer notes that he anticipates a rise in accommodation complaints filed by transgender workers over such issues as dress codes, health insurance, pronoun usage and identity cards. He explains that “the law has moved pretty far ahead of the average employer’s awareness,” meaning that employers should focus time and resources on educating management and staff personnel, and reviewing all policies, procedures, and handbooks to ensure full compliance with applicable laws.
