M&R Wins First Amendment Victory on Behalf of Entertainment Companies’ Pursuit of Film and TV Pirates

M&R attorneys Sanford Michelman, Mona Hanna, and Jesse Contreras prevailed Friday in the Ninth Circuit, arguing that client Rightscorp properly sought subpoenas to identify potential copyright infringers for purposes of pursuing its rights under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.  Successfully invoking California’s anti-SLAPP statute, M&R persuaded the court to strike class action accusations of abusive enforcement tactics by Rightscorp and its clients Warner Bros. and BMG Rights Management.  Rightscorp assists studios and other entertainment companies in enforcing their copyrights.
