Music Licensing Requirements to Play Music at Your BusinessPDF San Francisco Entertainment Commission
Ilse Scott gave a presentation on “Music Licensing Requirements to Play Music at Your Business,” hosted by the San Francisco Entertainment Commission at the Main Library branch of the San Francisco Public Library on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. Open to the general public, this discussion explored the music licensing requirements necessary for bars, restaurants, hotels, nightclubs and all other businesses that play music at their establishments. Ilse reviewed how agreements differ based on establishment size, and the delivery method of the music, be it by jukebox, karaoke machine, CD, television, live performance, and more. She discussed how to respond to demands for licensing payments from performance rights organizations, including BMI, ASCAP, and SESAC, and how to evaluate and implement the level of licensing necessary to avoid copyright infringement and monetary penalties.
