Multi-Concept, Multi-Unit Independents: Issues for Organization, Financing and Profitable Exit

PDF 25th Annual Restaurant Finance & Development Conference
Las Vegas, Nevada
November 12, 2014

Jordan Bernstein moderated a panel at the 25th Annual Restaurant Finance & Development Conference on November 10-12, 2014 at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.

During this engaging presentation, titled “Multi-Concept, Multi-Unit Independents: Issues for Organization, Financing and Profitable Exit,” expert panelists discussed the primary obstacles and benefits of conducting a multi-concept, multi-unit restaurant business, in contrast to a single concept, multi-unit restaurant venture. The panel explored issues faced by operators of multiple “micro-brands,” including training, brand standards, and conducting business across multiple jurisdictions and state lines. Additional topics covered debt and/or equity financing issues faced at the unit level, or the enterprise level when assets are diversified across numerous “micro-brands,” and how to underwrite or value a multi-concept, multi-unit restaurant business based on its diversity of assets —both intellectual and operational.
