The course explored intellectual property issues unique to the burgeoning field of mobile software apps and included a look at the business issues confronting developers as a way to frame the intellectual property discussion with clients. IP issues discussed included the difference between domestic and foreign filing, factors to consider when filing a patent for a software app, such as originality and novelty of an invention, and the strategic uses of intellectual property filings to gain business advantage over competitors.
