Professional development is instilled in the fabric of Michelman & Robinson, LLP (M&R). We believe our clients are best served by a highly motivated and educated workforce that is continually improving its skills, business acumen and legal knowledge. M&R University (MRU) is a vehicle we use to make this happen.
Attorneys and professional staff alike participate in a vast array of educational offerings. Continuing Legal Education (CLE), professional development and skills training, practice and industry updates, business development courses, and sessions focused on communications and operations comprise the curriculum. Classes are taught by outside speakers, attorneys and the Firm’s administrative leadership. Additionally, senior partners teach industry-focused seminars to educate the entire workforce on the issues impacting our clients.
A dedicated dean of programming ensures our staff and attorney educational needs are met and that everyone is fully engaged, always mindful of MRU’s D.R.I.V.E. philosophy:

Continuing Legal Education (CLE)
M&R is a State Bar approved CLE provider. Through MRU, our attorneys gain credits as well as greater legal expertise. Additional classes taught by outside experts are held throughout M&R’s offices in order to provide attorneys with practical knowledge. A few of the hundreds of topics covered include updates on laws pertaining to individual practice groups as well as litigation tactics, ethics and regulatory compliance.
Professional Development & Skills Training
M&R University is heavily focused on the professional development and skills training of attorneys and staff. Whether it is a seminar on trial practices for young lawyers, technology-focused "lunch n’ learns" for legal assistants or advanced Excel classes for our accounting professionals, we believe in honing the skills and nurturing the talents of our people. Our dean of programming tailors the curriculum on an ongoing basis to reflect the changing educational needs of the Firm.
Practice & Industry Updates
As valued partners, it is imperative that we fully understand our clients’ businesses and stay abreast of evolving market trends and conditions. As such, senior attorneys hold seminars on current issues impacting our clients’ respective industries. Courses address such topics as competitive landscape analysis, emerging technologies, and the intersection of business and legal strategy.
Communications and Operations
The Director of Human Resources designs and leads quarterly courses that seek to improve interpersonal communications. Each course is delivered over multiple sessions, in order to engage everyone at the Firm. By highlighting soft skills, staff and attorneys become better able to recognize and benefit from one another’s strengths. Additionally, our Chief Operations Officer designs courses aimed at increasing operational efficiency by heightening awareness of how best to utilize each department within the Firm.
