Too many among us are underserved and lack the resources for and access to legal representation. M&R takes every opportunity to do something about that. Our attorneys are passionate and civic-minded, who proudly and diligently handle pro bono matters for low-income individuals and families, as well as nonprofit organizations.
A sampling of our efforts include:
The California State Bar has honored Sanford Michelman, M&R’s Chairman, for his work with this nonprofit that provides free, comprehensive legal services to low-income individuals in Los Angeles. Several other of the firm’s attorneys also work on cases for Bet Tzedek, addressing issues that involve clients’ living conditions, employment and government benefits.
Children’s Law Center of California
We volunteer to represent the interests of abused, neglected and abandoned children who come under the protection of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.
New York Legal Aid Society
M&R is an active supporter of the New York Legal Aid Society, having frequently fought on behalf of its clients against unscrupulous landlords. In one recent matter, we successfully assisted a single mother of two small children living in squalor in a dispute with her landlord to make her apartment habitable.
Plant for the Planet
The firm is working hard to bring this international organization headquartered in Munich, Germany to the United States. Its singular goal is to fight the climate crisis by planting trees around the world.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)
M&R regularly handle matters in association with this worthy nonprofit, helping families in jeopardy with their tax documentation, among other things, so that they may gain a financial foothold.
