Summer Associates

At Michelman & Robinson, LLP (M&R), today’s summer associates are tomorrow’s partners. In finding passionate and committed law students, we are laying the foundation for the future of M&R. We select a talented group of individuals who are top students, enthusiastic about practicing law and learning about the various industries we service.  Ours is a culture of collegiality so it’s important to find the right fit.  We look for diverse students, understanding that a diverse workforce enriches the quality of our firm, and is reflective of the communities in which we work.

In 2015, over 80% of our summer associates received, and 100% accepted, offers to join M&R as associates.

The Program

We provide our summer associates with hands-on, practical legal experience they can parlay into their future careers.  Summer associates work with attorneys in several areas of the law, and gain valuable industry knowledge. This aligns with the industry-focused approach M&R takes to the practice of law, which emphasizes not only legal, but business strategies. Summer associates are encouraged from the start to find, and become knowledgeable in, an industry for which they have an affinity.  Further, our summer associates are trained to be attorneys from day one—writing motions, drafting briefs, and participating in depositions, transactions and regulatory matters. 

A fully engaged, collaborative workforce drives M&R’s success. Summer associates are encouraged to take full advantage of M&R University courses, which provide professional development tools Firm-wide.  Additionally, summer associates learn about M&R’s unique culture by socializing with attorneys and participating in firm events.  In the past, summer events have included partner in-home dinners, Broadway musicals, baseball games, barbeques and attorney retreats.

On-Campus Recruiting

We conduct on-campus interviews in the fall and spring, and limit the program to 2Ls—who we find are committed and ready to embark on their professional careers.  We seek motivated students with exceptional academic records and an enthusiasm for law school activities such as moot court, law review and other law school journals.  An industry-focused law firm, we also take into consideration previous professional and business experience.

While we conduct on-campus interviews as part of the recruiting process, we also accept write-in applications from students who are unable to meet us in person.
